Hey lipstick lovers. You must be here to talk the lipstick that has taken the internet by storm. I am talking about LipSense, in case you missed the title somehow. I can't blame anyone for being intrigued. I certainly was. I think we have all seen that VIDEO floating around of the girl with the two different colors, rubbing her mouth super hard and the product didn't budge. I am a lipstick kinda girl, so I had to test it out for myself.
This is an overview of the product according to the company SeneGence:
"The premier product for SeneGence®, LipSense is a patented, amazing departure from conventional lipsticks and lip colors. LipSense is versatile in that you can mix shades to create a number of effects.
Unique product is waterproof and does not kiss off, smear off, rub off, or budge off!
Does not dry out your lips – it works to restore the moisture content
Color lasts anywhere between 4 and 18 hours
LipSense comes in a wide variety of shades and textures; Frosts, Mattes, and Shimmers. LipSense lip colors are perfect to mix and match; LipSense is versatile in that you can use LipSense shades to create a number of effects.
LipSense is initially sold as a set, which includes LipSense Liquid Lip Color, a moisturizing Gloss, and an Ooops!™ Remover. Users should have a remover in the event they need to remove the product."

I encourage you to read the Science behind the product HERE
My mother-in-law actually started selling it because she loved it so much, and she just had her first party. (See pictures below.) IYou can only get it through a distributor. She gave me a starter kit (Color, Gloss, Remover) to review for my blog a couple of weeks before the party. She felt confidently that the product would sell itself. It did in my case. I have now used the product for over a month and I think I have pretty much tested the waters enough to be able to talk to you about it; the pros and the cons. This is my complete one-hundred percent honest review and opinion of the product.
Point blank, I love it. Truly, I do. It really does do everything that it claims to. It has taken the lead for my favorite lip product. Up until now, I would have told you that the Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks were my favorite. They were the most long wearing that I had found, but they have now taken the back seat. I don't like lipsticks that are not long wearing. I don't like having to guard my lips or eat/drink like a fish to keep from making a mess. I have what I call a droopy bottom lip. If a product is not long wearing, I can guarantee you that it will be all over my chin before long. I'm not for sure how, but somehow my bottom lip curls down and touches my chin when I talk. It happens worse when I eat. It is inevitable, so I don't even play games with regular lipstick anymore. I just don't even see the point of normal lipstick. It is old fashioned to me.
The number one selling point for me was that it claims to not smudge. Um, okay. Cool. Sign me up, not literally. That is also what sent me back for a second and third color because its true. It doesn't budge. I have three colors that are on my to get list and I want to get all of the glosses. It does have a high maintenance application. You have been warned. The product is a very thin liquid that you apply it in three thin coats, letting each coat dry in between. For some of the colors I applied four layers to get it a more opaque look. It does take more time to apply than a normal lipstick, which is a downside. However, once you get it on, it is there until you take it off. I think that the time it takes to put on is a great trade off compared to the hassle of wearing other products. I would much rather spend a little extra time up front than have to worry and be careful all day.
If you are someone who doesn't like to spend time with your makeup, then this may not be your everyday go-to. It isn't a product that you can put on as your are walking out of the door. But, in my opinion, I can justify the extra time up front because it saves me time throughout the day. You won't be worrying about re-applying it, that is for sure. Even if you are not someone that likes to spend the time, I think that every girl should have it in their collection for the occasions that you need to look good for a long time. It is great for being in situations were you don't have the time to re-apply.
The product feels unlike anything I have ever worn before. I expected it to feel like the Revlon Color Stay or the Covergirl Outlast but it doesn't. It is almost hard to describe. You can feel something there, but it isn't uncomfortable. It feels just like you are wearing a lip gloss. If you let the lip gloss wear off, it feels like there is a thin film over your lip, but the color still won't budge. There are two things I love about the product way more than the Colourpops that I usually wear. One, you can customize the finish with the choice of gloss you pick; matte, satin, glossy, GLITTER, etc. With Colourpop, you have to buy different formulas to get the right finish and the mattes are the only long wear. They also may not have the same color in each finish. You can't just put a gloss over the Colourpop's Ultra Mattes. They don't layer. Two, the texture of the product is ten times more comfortable. Colourpop is so drying that some people can't handle it. LipSense isn't like that at all.
I know this may seem like a silly point but, I love that I can take a nap in this without having to worry that I will ruin furniture. I probablly shouldn't admit that sometimes I take naps. Oh well. I love that I can cuddle Jereme and my kitties and not worry about getting it all over them. I love that I can eat without ending up looking like Ronald McDonald. Those are all important things to me. Ha. I was so confident in this product, the other day I kissed my white shirt (while I was wearing a She's Apples) on Instagram for everyone to see.
With just about everything in life there are pros and cons, so I compiled a list that I think will tell you what you need to know about LipSense.
Pros
- Once you put it on, it is there until you take it off.
- It is waterproof.
- It is budge and smudge proof.
- The color doesn't fade. It stays just as vibrant as when you applied it.
- The setting glosses feel very moisturizing and all have Shea butter in them.
- The different glosses provide more color combinations.
- The combinations are endless. 3 colors can make 27 color combinations.
- It doesn't get on your teeth or clothes or husband. ;)
- It is husband approved.
- When you wear the matte gloss, it feels like your are wearing nothing.
- The color doesn't transfer into into the gloss tubes. That is cool to experience.
- The products have a pleasant scent. (I know that is personal preference, but I like it.)
- The Alcohol prevents bacterial growth in the tubes.
- They last 7 years unopened.
- There are over 50 shades to choose from.
- Continued use with make your lips super soft.
cons
- It has a high maintenance application.
- The product contains denatured alcohol, so it can tingle for a few seconds when you first start using the product if you have already dry lips.
- Your lips may get dry the first time you use it. Mine did.
- Some colors taste weird if you let the gloss wear off.
- They are HARD to remove. (Keep in mind that you are removing three layers.) and the remover tastes bad.
- They feel a little dry if you let the gloss wear off.
- The price. The glosses are 20$. The colors are 25$.
tips
- You can leave your color at home, but keep your gloss handy.
- DO NOT touch your lips together until you have a gloss on.
- Exfoliate your lips once a week.
- Use a lip balm at night to keep lips hydrated for wear during the day.
- If you don't like the high gloss look, go for the matte gloss.
- Put the remover on your finger first and then use your finger to apply it to you lips. (That keeps the color from getting into your tube).
- Let each coat dry to the point that it isn't tacky any more before applying the next. (Longer than recommended.)
- I encourage you to read the science behind it. It is super cool.
- Oily foods will break down the product much faster if you aren't wearing a gloss.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me say that I was so sad that I could no longer get my favorite red lipstick anymore. It was discontinued. I kid you not, no sooner than I posted that, my mother-in-law showed me the newest color that they unveiled at a recent conference. Guess what, It was almost identical. It is called She's Apples. (I am wearing it in the first picture of this post.) I felt like it was meant to be, there is only one problem, it is limited edition. Ugh... I will be buying several for sure. The good news is that it lasts up to 7 years unopened.

LipSence changed the game for me. I genuinely love the product. The staying power is unlike anything I have used before and so worth the time it takes to put it on. I am not a distributor, but If you are interested in trying it or becoming a distributor yourself, my sweet mother-in-law would be more than happy to help you. She can tell you all you need to know. You can contact her HERE. Or I can try to answer any questions you have. I also have a few swatches below as well. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Love always,
Sarah
