Hey, dolls. I am SO happy to finally be sharing some of my home with you. I was reluctant to show you for a long time, half out of fear of not being good enough and half out of embarrassment that it isn't where I want it to be. I have had to come to terms with that ridiculous notion. I have since realized that I have a home to be proud of and that there are people who seriously don't even have a room to live in, let alone an entire house. Besides, it isn't about being perfect, it is about the journey. I realized that it doesn't really matter if no one else approves of it, it works for us and I am happy to have it.
We have not always had the means to purchase everything we would like to in order to make it perfect, but honestly no one does. Even the wealthiest of the wealthy want to fix, and add, and change things. Unfortunately it is a never ending struggle to make things even better. Like I mentioned before, my fears have kept me from sharing. It took me months to build. This up the courage for this post. This my house. This is my life, and I love it. So in that, it is time to share with you my personal style. Maybe you might find some inspiration in it, that is my hope.
My goal is to have a space that feels good to come home to. I would describe my home style as a mixture of rustic and eclectic with hints of boho. It is far from my preferred style, but my preferred style just doesn't fit the house that we live in. I prefer an industrial home with hints of rustic and modern. For now, I am making do. I do love our little house though. It feels so homey, and I am always happy to walk through the door even when it is messy. I must admit that my favorite part is who I share it with. (I just want to state up-front that I won't post the entire layout of my house online. I don't really feel comfortable doing that at the moment. I don't mind sharing certain areas though.) I love home decor and I am constantly changing and rearranging and updating. Nothing ever stays the same around here for very long. And, if you come in my house this week and then again next week, I bet you will find something changed. Ha. Can you relate?
BEDROOM
Our bedroom is of course one of my favorite places, Duh. It is where we get our beauty rest, and boy I need a lot of that. I love mixing prints and patterns and textures. I live for pillows, and I am constantly changing those too. Even as we speak, I have different pillows on my bed, and different throws.
I have become a queen at making something out of nothing. There are several things around my house that I have had to get creative with. Our headboard for instance, I made from an old window that has a very thick frame. When we moved, I put it there until we could a headboard, but I liked it so much that we never got one. If you will notice my nightstand, yes, it is an old tree stump. I love using natural wooden texture throughout my home. I love earthy touches. I don't know why, but it has always been one of my favorite elements to decorate with.
I add in new fun prints to balance the old; like the gold polka dots, and the dalmatian print. I hand painted the dalmatian pillow by the way. I could not find exactly what I wanted, so I made them instead. It was super easy. I got a several small white travel size pillows and used black fabric paint. It was so simple but it makes a big statement. I also hand painted the scripture above the bed several years in our first apartment and it has stuck with us since we have been together.
I would like to address my choice of adding pops of light blue. That normally wouldn't be my first choice, however, Jereme has a "blanket" that he just will not part with. I say blanket, but lets just be honest the poor thing is not much of anything anymore. It is so raggedy and falling apart that every time I wash it, more pieces fall off it. So I have been forced to use it, so I made the most. I added the blue in pops around the room in this little bird painting and candles and a throw pillow. It goes well with the theme though.
Jereme is from Florida and he misses it so much, so I try to keep a coastal vibe going in the bedroom. My hopes are that he wakes up a little happier because it feels "beachy" and like "home". I painted a boardwalk for that very reason. When you open your eyes, it is one of the first things you see.
Throughout my house, You might notice that I have many handmade pieces. I have a way of making something out of nothing. Most of the time my craftiness comes out when I see something that I like, but can't always afford to bring it home. Or, I see something that gives me inspiration and I feel like I can recreate it. Example; this rosette garland. I found the light stand (linked below) at Hobby Lobby. I made the roses out of brown butcher packing paper and simply glued them to the strand. It makes the perfect night light.
Candle: Mahogany Teakwood, Light Strand
We have collected all of our shells from beach trips that we have taken, or that Jereme's family got as gifts on their vacations.
Kitchen and dining
I know, I know. I don't have much to show of my kitchen. To be honest, there is not much to it. It is the tiniest laundry/ kitchen combo. It works for us, but my next house has a large kitchen requirement. It is so small that it is hard to photograph. I will try to get some taken though.
Living
I will try to make a post dedicated to just our living room soon. When I had taken these pics, I still had fall decor up. I know it is no longer fall, but I didn't think you would mind. Besides, I seriously love everything about fall, so I don't mind it.

I hand painted the pumpkins below. I also made the "welcome" banner for a family gatherings out of old dropcloth.
Bathroom
I decorated our bathroom in a cotton theme. I used whites and cremes to give it a clean but soft feel. I like things to feel clean and nothing does that quite like bright white. I don't want it to feel hospital-like though, hence my choice to add the cotton and cremes. I painted cotton on the three canvases to use as a focal point.
I added the little pumpkins for fall and Thanksgiving, however I love them so much that I am going to keep them a little longer. Before I put the pumpkins in, I had a dove painting (See below). The cotton stem, wire basket, and glass jar are from Hobby Lobby. I snagged my shower curtain and hooks from Home Goods. They were such a steal. I still need to find the perfect floor mat, but Jereme and I have very different opinions of what type to get, so we always end up "waiting". Ha. Yes, he does give his input, and does not mind telling me if he does not like something. For the most part, he lets me be expressive in my own way and doesn't argue too much. (Insert heart eyes emoji here.)
My Beauty and Art Room
My Beauty/Art room has been the slowest room to take shape. I am still working to get it the way I want. There are still some pieces that I need for organizing and such. It is coming together, just very slowly. So for now, here are some ways that I have had used this couch. I plan to work on this room in 2017.
Well, leave me a comment if you managed to make it this far. I truly hope you enjoyed. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Love always, Sarah
