Hey friends. As you can see, I took the living room decor in a new direction and I thought you guys might like to see it. You usually do, or at least my analytics say so. Ha. I am all about decorating on a budget and I found a fun little project that will up your aesthetics but won't break the bank. It was almost too easy.
I have been seeing a trend of wicker basket in some of my favorite decorators homes lately. I am loving it; particularly when used for gallery walls. I noticed that basket gallery walls have been a reoccurring element in the pictures that I have been pinning recently too. So, I decided that I wanted one in my home. I am a very spur of the moment type of girl, so I got Jereme to run me to Savers and I rounded up some baskets. Savers always has them, and it is for sure the cheapest route to go. I didn't tell him my plan until we got there and he saw the cart full. When it comes to decor, I find that it is better to just do it and not give him time to object. He doesn't always see my vision, but I am thankful that he lets me take the reins on the home decor. He usually likes the end result.
I knew the look I was going for, however you can't be too picky when it comes to working with Savers. I went in knowing that I wanted various shades of round baskets. But, I was willing to allow myself to be inspired and to compromise if need be. That is just what you have to do as a thrifter. Thankfully, they had plenty of exactly what I wanted. I got all of the baskets in one trip. It cost me just barely over ten dollars. That is a win to me. Savers to the rescue.
I arranged the baskets haphazardly behind our tv. I didn't want them to be even or symmetrical. I placed a white metal basket that I already had in the center. I wanted to incorporate the metal basket so that it would anchor in the white from the room. I love the way it turned out. I think it plays into the "handmade home" theme very well.
The moment Jereme and I got them up, I was in love. It was just the look I was going for. It even got the hubby's stamp of approval twice. As soon as it was up he said he loved it. Then we left, and when we came back, he walked in the door and immediately commented on how much he loved them. He said it was "looking bare" up there [meaning behind the tv] before and "that is just what it needed". I couldn't agree with him more more.
You may also notice another significant difference. The divider that I had in the corner is no longer a divider. I took it apart and hung up two of the doors on either side of the mirror that Jereme made me. I moved the dream catchers too, hanging them over top. I like that it fills the empty space, and I think it really added the balance it needed.
I am jumping ahead of the seasons over here. I removed all of the spring green and replaced it with the original sticks. I prepping a good base for fall! I LOVE fall. Can't wait.
Something that I didn't show you in my LAST POST was how cute this little lamp is turned on. The glow reflects off of all of the white throughout the room, and I just love the warmth that it brings to the space.
I also added this little ottoman to the mix. My mother-in-law was getting rid of it, so I brought it home. The pattern didn't quite match, so I fixed that by adding a blanket and a textile. I can speak for my little cat Rose. She says she loves the new bed I made her.
As a renter and someone on a budget, it can be challenging (maybe I should say intimidating) to decorate your home. Antiquing and thrifting have been so good at helping me to work around those roadblocks. There are limitations to what you can change in a rental home and I can't always afford to buy brand new when it comes to decor. Let's just be real, I would be broke ALL the time if I bought brand new every single time I got an itch to change things around. But it really does not have to be hard or expensive or even take a ton of work to decorate . I think all it takes is a little thinking outside the box and you can create any look and feel for your home. Just remember, when it comes to decorating, it doesn't have to be new to be perfect for you.
Love Always,
Sarah
