Hey, dolls. I am sure you have noticed, but I am not married to one hair style. I like to keep things changing. I must say though, I never get compliments and questions about anything more than I do about my hair. More-so, I get the most questions when I wear, what I call, my "glamour" curls. So I thought today would be a good day to chat hair and answer some questions that I get regularly.
1.Do you wear Extensions?
In short, the answer is no. It is really hard for a most people to believe that I don't wear extensions. (I don't even own a pair, I do have a few grays though. Ughh.) I just have a few secrets up my sleeve to keeping what the Lord gave me in the best condition I can.
2. What is your Natural Hair?
I have naturally curly hair (You can see my natural hair in my last post.) and for the most part it has a mind all of its own. Some days we are best friends and some days it is my nemesis. I have pretty thick hair. I always have, up until recently. I had a crazy hormone fluctuation (I have talked about it in depth more in other posts) not that long ago, and I was losing so much hair. I feel that I am just now recovering from that. My regrowth is past the stage of being too short to style. The color you see, is completely my natural hair color. I am no stranger to dye, but it has been about five years since I have had any thing done. I have been craving a change up though, we will see how that goes.
3. How often do you wash it?
It may really surprise you to know that I only wash my hair once about once every five days. I stand in the opinion that it is not good to over wash your hair. It strips too many of the good things away. I believe this is one of the best things to do if you are wanting long locks. The longer you can wait between washing's, the better. I would like to make it clear, I DO shower. I just make sure to use a shower cap to keep the moisture from getting to my hair. That helps to make your hair last longer between washes. Dry shampoo is a life saver too. When I do wash it, I am an easy pleaser, Since I don't currently have dye, I am a Head and Shoulders kinda girl. I have a sensitive scalp (allergic SO many brands) and I am unfortunately dandruff prone. H&S takes really good care of me. I am not very high maintenance when it comes to that.
4. What blow dryer do you use?
Listen up, if you hear me on nothing else, hear me on this. It is my biggest kept secret to long hair. The most important tip I can tell you about is what I do once I get out of the shower. I NEVER... EVER use a blow dryer. EVER. If I don't have enough time to let my hair air dry, then I just won't wash it. Gross, I know, but I am telling you that they are hair killers. I stopped using them years ago and I could see the biggest change in the quality of my hair. Also, after washing it, I use The Moroccanoil Treatment. It is a life saver.
5. What Styling products do you use?
I know I stressed the importance of me not using a blow-dryer, but I can't stay away from the styling tools. I know they are just as bad, but justify them because I skip the dryer. I know, I'm cray cray. I do think it is very important to use a heat protectant any time you do use a styling tool. I have used the same one since high school: Chi Iron Guard 44 Thermal Protection Spray. I love the smell and it does the job. I use Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play hair spray. If I need an extra boost of volume, I use (and love) the Big Sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing & Texturizing Powder. Another favorite product is the Kenra Dry Thickening Spray.
Sometimes I have to take a mid styling break. It takes awhile to tame this massive amount of mane. That, or I get sidetracked by Jereme or our fur babies.
Depending on my mood, at this point, I will take a wide flat brush and brush out what I have just done to create a more relaxed curl.
After I have completed the curls, I will sometimes flip my hair upside down and tease the roots to give a little more body and volume. I will also run my fingers through the curls to relax them.
Like I mentioned before, I get the most questions about my hair, so I hope that you found this helpful. If I forgot to mention something feel free to ask me in the comments below. I would be happy to answer anything I left out. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Love always, Sarah.
