Hey sweet friends, I have to tell you about this new self tanner that I have recently been using by the brand Tan Luxe. If you did not know, I ditched the tanning beds in college. I only self tan now or I rock no tan at all. I have tried so many tanners that I feel like I can tell pretty quickly whether or not something will work for me, and it didn't take me long to fall for this one. Plus I think this blog is overdue for a self-tanner review. The last one I reviewed was Loving Tan way long ago back in 2015. Okay, so let's jump in.
About The Product

How to use
So basically, to keep it short a simple. It is super simple. You combine your own favorite moisturizer with these drops to achieve a tan. You add 2-12 drops depending on how bronzed you want to be. Two drops is more of a glow all the way up to 12 (which I haven't been brave enough to try yet) being a bronzed beach queen.
My Thoughts
First off, I have to say, this product is so unique. It is unlike any that I have used before. It has definitely carved its own way into my beauty regime. From my using it, I can tell you that it is in my top five for sure. I don't want to give it an actual number ranking because of how unique and flexible it is. It is in a category of its own really.
I can think of so many reasons that this would be a good product to add to your arsenal. This is a one stop tanning product as well as a buildable one. No other product that I know of can do both. And you know... "get you a girl that can do both". The level of tan you get depends on the amount of drops you use. In these pictures I used about six drops combined with Korres White Grape Body Butter. Even if you just used it as a tan extender for other products, I think it is a product worth having. When a tanner is fading, and it isn't quite to the point of starting over, you could easily freshen it up with a few drops just to extend that glow or even out the fade. That is one of the best parts.
I see this product being so good for so many people too. If you are someone who has to use a certain type of lotion for your skin or if you have sensitive skin that can't use many self tanners, I see this being a good product for you. You can use whatever product you already know that you love just add the tanning part to it. In fact, what I love the most is that you can not only customize what type of lotion you use, but you get to control the smell. You can literally use this with any lotion you want. I LOVE THAT. I don't know about you, but some self tanners can be so off putting because of their smell. With this product, it smells like the moisturizer that you use.
What you may not like
I hate to even say anything negative about this product because not everyone will have the same experiences and with this, I am reaching just to get one. I think this product is amazing, but on my light skin, it does lean very slightly on the orange tint. I mean, its nothing that is unwearable or embarrassing. I just prefer a more olive-y undertone in my self tanners but again I do love this one and I will continue to use it. I mean, you can see the pictures for yourself. What do you think? I haven't tried using this product with the full 12 drops yet and I am curious to know how that would effect the color and tone. If you would like to see that, just let me know and I will gladly show you.
Tips
When I initially used this product, I really put it to the test so that I could give you a really good overview. I wanted to see what it was made of, so I used it differently on all areas of my body. Yes I looked a little cray. I worked out all of the what ifs so that you won't have to. I put less drops on one arm and more drops on my stomach. I also tried out what would happen if I didn't mix the lotion very well. I also lotioned my dry spots (like it said to do i.e. elbows, wrists) on one side and not the other just to see. I compiled a few tips from my testings:
- Follow the instructions.
- I know number one sounds silly but you would be suprised how many people don't. Which bring me to this: Make sure that you mix the drops evenly into your lotion. When I didn't it caused streaking (but again I just wanted to see what would happen if I didn't follow the directions. Don't be like me. Follow the directions.).
- If you get intimidated to use the full amount right out of the gate, try building. Start with a two or three drops and then do it again the next day. I had really great results building the product. Especially if it is your first time self-tanning. I know tan-timidation is a real thing.
- Play around with the number of drops to figure out what works best for you. Do swatch tests on an area that no one will see.
- Wear rubber gloves so that the product does not stain in-between your fingers or your nails.
- If you don't wear gloves, just be sure to wash your hands really well after. You can always reapply if your hands don't match.
- Don't sweat until it is set.
- Don't apply over bandaids. When you remove the bandaids, you will still be wearing them. Telling you from a friend... HAHA.
I hope you found this to be helpful. If you have any questions, leave them below or send me a DM on any of my other socials. I would love to chat with you about it. Have you used this product before? If so tell me what you think. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Love Always,
Sarah
